The firm

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is a leading international law firm with offices across the world.  It has a substantial European practice with particular emphasis on international arbitration and litigation, cross-border acquisitions, capital markets transactions, private equity funds, financings and restructurings.  The London office has more than 130 lawyers, including twenty-nine partners and twenty-three international counsel.  Over two thirds of our lawyers are UK-qualified.   The office is part of an integrated European practice of over 140 lawyers.   Our London lawyers work closely with their colleagues in New York, Paris and Frankfurt, as well as with lawyers in our other offices. The department

We have one of the leading private funds practices in the world, with coverage in the US, Europe and Asia. Our integrated team of funds, regulatory and tax specialists advise a wide range of fund managers and advisers with a variety of strategies, including private equity and venture capital, real estate, infrastructure and debt. The European team works with UK, continental European, US and global asset managers, and is ranked in Band 2 for Private Equity Funds by Chambers UK.

The position

One of the firm’s key practices globally and in London is IMG, which assists clients in the private equity industry with raising capital, investing in private equity funds, transferring interests in private equity funds and related transactions.  This role will contribute to the effectiveness of IMG by providing a comprehensive and efficient service to the partners and external clients to achieve the business objectives of the firm and department.

Responsibilities

Key point person for matter management including new matter opening and ongoing administration.

Coordinate and maintain billing portfolios for assigned billing partners.

Review time entries to ensure proper matter coding, billing rates, compliance with client guidelines and missing time.

Produce proformas, client bills (narrative description bills as well as detailed time/cost bills).

Working with the practice group to develop strong relationships with key clients.

Attend periodic practice group and other relevant meetings to ensure knowledge of clients and matters is up to date.

Assist with financial analysis related to clients and matters.

Liaise with the firms billing team and other administrative departments as & when required.

Ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.

Skills, experience & qualifications

Qualifications

Minimum 3 A Levels.

Possibly ILEX, law degree or previous paralegal experience.

Competencies Required

Experience of working in a law firm.

Knowledge of Aderant would be an advantage.

Proficiency in MS Excel and Word.

Proactive, self-learner with a positive, team-player attitude.

Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with lawyers and other departments.
