The firm

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP is a leading international law firm with offices across the world. It has a substantial European practice with particular emphasis on international arbitration and litigation, cross-border acquisitions, capital markets transactions, private equity funds, financings and restructurings. The London office has more than 120 lawyers, including 29 partners and 22 international counsel. Over two thirds of our lawyers are UK-qualified. Our London lawyers work closely with their colleagues in New York, Paris and Frankfurt, as well as with lawyers in our other offices. The London office has an overall count of around 260. 

The department

The Professional Development team: liaise with partners and lawyers across practice groups to design, implement and deliver the associate skills curriculum; assist the practice group leaders with the design and delivery of practice-specific training for associates; oversee continuing legal education (CLE) accreditation/compliance for associates and the PSC for trainees; and manage the associate and trainee review process and the advising/mentoring programmes.

The position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the wider Office Management team as a Professional Development Coordinator reporting into the Professional Development Manager. 

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Professional Development Manager in coordinating the delivery of legal and professional development training for London partners, counsel, associates and trainees to address their respective learning and development needs
  • Assisting with trainee seat rotations and qualification process.
  • Work with human resources staff to help coordinate the lawyering orientation process for new trainees, associates and counsel
  • Support the evaluation process for London trainees, associates and counsel including the collection of evaluations, review materials and assisting with drafting career development messages and other performance messages
  • Coordinate the associate reviews in the firm’s Asian and European offices, as well as lawyer training across the firm’s European offices
  • Assist the PD Manager in the running of various committees such as ALC and D&I
  • Work closely with the New York-based Professional Development team on global projects and initiatives 
Skills, experience & qualifications
  •  A minimum of 4 years’ experience in the professional development field
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Team player, with a ‘can do’, positive and reliable attitude
  • Ability to demonstrate discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Flexible and willing to work overtime when needed
